Statement by Yves Meyer on the occasion of the 2020 Princess of Asturias Awards

“Your Majesties,
Your Royal Highnesses,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today, I am deeply moved to receive the Award for Technical and Scientific Research from the Princess of Asturias Foundation. In my work and, more especially, in my research work on wavelet theory and signal processing, I had the help and support of my friends. The Jury for the Princess of Asturias Award has seen fit not to separate me from them. Ingrid Daubechies, Emmanuel Candès and Terence Tao are here with me; I am so glad that we were rewarded together!

Spain has been my second homeland for more than half a century now. That is why I feel so immensely honoured by the Princess of Asturias Foundation.
Today I feel happy on two counts: as a scientist and as a Spaniard at heart.
