TM The King and Queen meet with the members of the boards of trustees of the Princess of Asturias Foundation

TM The King and Queen are to meet with the members of the Boards of Trustees of the Princess of Asturias Foundation at the Royal Palace of El Pardo today, Friday 1st June, at 12 noon.

A detailed report on the work carried out in 2017 will be presented during the meeting, as well as a report on the financial situation and assets of the Foundation, which has ended the year with positive net income and a similar level of expenditure to that of the previous year. The overall expenditure of the Foundation in 2017 amounted to 5.45 million euros.

The institution’s Annual Report, which contains figures and information related to the activities undertaken throughout the year, will be presented to the members of the Boards of Trustees during the meeting.

The most significant activities comprise the granting and presentation of the Princess of Asturias Awards and the arrangements for the cultural week surrounding the Awards Ceremony. Last year, these included over thirty free events open to the public, attended by some 20,000 people, They also involved the “Taking the Floor” educational programme, aimed at making the work of the Laureates better known to schoolchildren, which counted on the participation of 6,665 pupils from 139 schools in the Principality of Asturias. A report will also be given on the work of the Music Department, which congregated more than 36,000 people, as well as last year’s edition of the International Music School Summer Courses. Opened under the presidency of HM The Queen, these courses were attended by 143 students from nine different countries.
