The Princess of Asturias Foundation is to present a documentary at the 27th Málaga Film Festival entitled Carmen and María. Two paths, but one gaze, an in-house production inspired by flamenco singer Carmen Linares and flamenco dancer and choreographer María Pagés.

The screening, which will count on the presence of both artists, will take place on at 7 pm on 8th March at the Echegaray Theatre in Málaga, within the cycle of documentary films in the official out-of-competition section. It will be followed by a discussion session with Carmen Linares and María Pagés, chaired by journalist César Suárez.

This audiovisual production, lasting forty minutes, reflects the process of artistic creation behind their shows and presents their thoughts on their profession and lives, as well as their vision of flamenco art. The event will also be attended by the Princess of Asturias Foundation’s president, Ana I. Fernández, and director, Teresa Sanjurjo.

On receiving the 2022 Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts, flamenco singer Carmen Linares and flamenco dancer María Pagés performed together again twenty-five years after they last did so. To mark the occasion, they created the flamenco performance “Carmen y María. Two paths, but one gaze”. This intimate piece, conceived to pay tribute through flamenco singing and dance to some of the most representative voices of Spanish poetry, was premiered on the eve of the Awards Ceremony at the Príncipe Felipe Auditorium in Oviedo, under the presidency of Their Majesties The King and Queen of Spain and with the presence of Their Royal Highnesses The Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofía.

Filmed during the rehearsals prior to the premiere of the show, this piece is the starting point of the documentary and also reflects the experiences of the Laureates in the cultural and official events organized on the occasion of the Princess of Asturias Awards Ceremony.
