Princess of Asturias Awards

Delegation of the group of spanish health workers on the front line against COVID-19, Princess of Asturias Award for Concord, at the presentation of the awards.

With the aim of reducing interprovincial mobility and interfering as little as possible in the work of healthcare professionals, who continue working in the public health emergency situation in which we find ourselves, the group of Spanish health workers on the front line against COVID-19, Princess of Asturias Award for Concord, will be represented mainly by personnel from Asturias.

Dr José Eugenio Gerrero Sanz, head of the ICU at the Gregorio Marañón Hospital and of the HM hospital group’s ICUs, both in Madrid, will deliver a speech on behalf of all of them.

List of people who will represent this group at the presentation:

  • Teresa López Pernia, mother of Sara Bravo López, a family doctor at the Mota del Cuervo Health Centre in Cuenca, who at the age of 28 lost her life treating patients on the first line of Covid-19.
  • Alberto González Estébanez, pneumologist at the Gómez Ulla Military Hospital in Madrid and captain in the Military Health Corps.
  • Nieves Mijimolle Cuadrado, licensed pharmacist. Her parents, Tomás Mijimolle and Maria del Carmen Cuadrado, both pharmacists by profession and vocation, did not hesitate to return to their pharmacy in Leganés in the hardest-hitting days of the pandemic. They died within a few days of each other in March due to Covid-19. Her sister Carmen will also be present at the audience with the Laureates.
  • Carmen Palomo Antequera, specialist doctor in the Department of Internal Medicine, Central University Hospital of Asturias (HUCA).
  • Fernando Valdés Menéndez, orderly at HUCA.
  • Javier García Fernández, controller at the rest home for the elderly in Grau/Grado* (Asturias) and community nurse.
  • José Eugenio Guerrero Sanz, head of the ICU at the Gregorio Marañón Hospital and of the ICUs belonging to the HM Private Hospital Group, both in Madrid.
  • María Jesús Amaro Martín, member of the HUCA cleaning service.
  • María Luisa Pérez Fernández, secretary at the HUCA multipurpose UCI.
  • Marta García Clemente, staff doctor at the HUCA Pneumology Service and current director of the Lung Management Department.
  • Pablo Corzo Pena, technician belonging to the emergency medical services in Asturias.
  • Pilar Martínez Suárez, technician in Auxiliary Nursing Care at the HUCA Accident and Emergency Service.
  • Rocío García Francos, specialist technician in Diagnostic Imaging at HUCA.
  • Salvador Balboa Palomino, 5th-year resident medical intern in Intensive Medicine at HUCA ICU.
  • Verónica Real Martínez, head of nursing at the IFEMA Covid-19 Hospital and current nursing supervisor of the Outpatient Emergency Service, Community of Madrid SUMMA 112.
