Ángel González

Prince of Asturias Award for Literature 1985

The members of the Jury for the 1985 Prince of Asturias Award for Letters, Emilio Alarcos, Manuel Alvar, Luis María Ansón, Fernándo Díaz Plaja, Álvaro Pombo, Emilio Romero, Jaime Salinas, Manuel Seco and Daniel Sueiro gathered in Oviedo on the 13th and 14th of June, 1985, under the presidency of Alfonso Guerra and with Román Suárez Blanco acting as secretary, have decided by majority to grant this award to the poet Ángel González, because poetry, through his work, survives the scepticism of an epoch with paradoxical tenderness.
