Princess of Asturias Award for Sports 2015

Statement by Marc Gasol on being bestowed with the 2015 Princess of Asturias Award for Sport:

“To receive the Princess of Asturias Award is of incalculable value to any laureate, but especially for a sportsperson, because, absolutely regardless of the sporting achievements you may have attained, this recognition explicitly considers humanistic values over and above those that have served as the basis for your professional career.
To receive it jointly with your brother makes you brim over with happiness, as the significance of the distinction also pays tribute to all those who have surrounded you throughout the course of your training to build these professional and personal values.”

Statement by Pau Gasol on being bestowed with the 2015 Princess of Asturias Award for Sport:

“It is a true honour to receive the 2015 Princess of Asturias Award for Sports jointly with my brother Marc, an award that is granted to us not only for our sporting career, but also for contributing to the promotion and spread of sport.
It fills us with pride to stand alongside Spanish sportsmen of the stature of Severiano Ballesteros, Mikel Indurain, Rafa Nadal, Iker Casillas, Xavi Hernández and international sporting figures like Sergei Bubka and Michael Schumacher.
This Award gives us strength to continue making an effort day by day and to continue trying to be an example for the young people who follow to us.”
