“The Magnificent 7 Scientists” and “Scientific Code”. K. Karikó, D. Weissman, P. Felgner, D. Rossi

Date and time: Wednesday, 20 October 2021. 12:30PM h.

Place: Plaza (exhibition) and Warehouse building (meeting). La Vega Arms Factory.

Admission by invitation only.

Four of the scientists jointly bestowed with the Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research will visit an exhibition of projects by primary school children who have participated in the section devoted to these Laureates within the “Taking the Floor” educational programme for schools (The Magnificent Seven Scientists). They will meet with a representation of these pupils. They will later meet with secondary school students who have participated in the section devoted to these Laureates within the “Taking the Floor” educational programme for schools (Scientific Code). This meeting will be chaired by Amador Menéndez Velázquez, Jury member for the 2021 Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research. A representation of pupils will attend the event in person while the rest of the participating schools will connect via video call. In The Magnificent Seven Scientists activity, primary school children were asked to carry out research on vaccines (how they act and what the basic types are) and the work contributed by each of the Laureates to one of the most outstanding events in the history of science, to then transform this information into a drawing. In the Scientific Code activity, secondary school students were asked to become communicators to reach the general public, explaining in a video some of the research with which the Laureates have contributed to the advancement of science.
