Two paths, but one gaze will be screened at Granada’s 1st Flamenco Film Festival, as well as at Seville’s 23rd Flamenco Biennial and the 8th Mediterranean Flamenco Festival, following its premiere last March at the Malaga Film Festival and its subsequent screening at the Santander International Festival in August.

- Aula de Cultura, Alicante, at 7:00pm on 28th October.
Also included in the official section of the Cal Film Festival (Los Angeles) and of the Avignon International Film Festival, this audiovisual piece reflects the process of artistic creation behind the flamenco artists’ shows and includes their reflections on their profession and lives, as well as their vision of flamenco art.
To mark the conferral of the Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts, in the summer of 2022 –twenty-five years after they had last worked together– Carmen Linares and María Pagés embarked on a creative process that was to subsequently give rise to this documentary, Carmen and María. Two paths, but one gaze. This intimate flamenco work, conceived to pay tribute through singing and dance to some of the most representative voices of Spanish poetry, was premiered at the Príncipe Felipe Auditorium in Oviedo on the eve of the Awards Ceremony under the presidency of Their Majesties The King and Queen of Spain and with the presence of Their Royal Highnesses The Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofía.
This performance served as the starting point for the documentary, filmed during the rehearsals prior to the premiere of the show and which also reflects the experiences of the Laureates in the cultural and official events organized to mark the Princess of Asturias Awards. This audiovisual piece is the first documentary to be produced by the Princess of Asturias Foundation, which seeks to disseminate the work of its Laureates via different formats.
Granada Flamenco Film Festival
The Granada Flamenco Film Festival came into being with the idea of putting the spotlight on the diverse perspectives and ways of experiencing flamenco in the world. Led by the Peña Flamenca “La Platería” on its 75th anniversary, the Festival –which celebrates its first edition this year– aims to provide common ground where both national and international filmmakers and artists can express their vision of flamenco through documentaries, fictionalised pieces, animated film and music videos.
Flamenco Biennial
The Seville Flamenco Biennial is a festival held every two years in different theatres in the city. It shines a spotlight on dancers, singers and guitarists, whether they are up-and-coming talents or leading figures of this genre, representing both pure flamenco and new trends. The first Biennial, directed by José Luis Ortiz, was held in 1980. Since 2014, it has been associated with the Paris Biennale of Flamenco Art with the aim of “developing joint projects and leading an open debate on flamenco beyond Spain’s borders”.
Mediterranean Flamenco Festival:
Organised by the Fundación Mediterráneo and with venues in Alicante and Murcia, the Mediterranean Flamenco Festival aims to highlight the links between flamenco and Mediterranean culture. It offers quality programming with a wide range of activities that include workshops, master classes, talks, documentary films, a photography competition and an exhibition of the prize-winning images. Firmly established as an undisputed cultural event for followers of flamenco art, since 2023 the Festival has also offered its stage to the annual winners of the “Cante de las Minas” International Festival.
