Eduardo Mendoza, 2025 Princess of Asturias laureate for Literature, is to meet with book clubs linked to public libraries
Under the title “Between Nonchalance and Knowledge", the meeting will take place at Oviedo Exhibition and Conference Centre on 20th October.
The Niemeyer Centre in Avilés will host a meeting with the public in which Eduardo Mendoza will review his literary career.

2025 Princess of Asturias Laureate for Literature Eduardo Mendoza is to meet with more than 150 book clubs mainly linked to public libraries in Asturias, Cantabria, Castile and León, Castile-La Mancha, Galicia and Navarre. Under the title “Between Nonchalance and Knowledge”, the event will take place at Oviedo Exhibition and Conference Centre at 7:00pm on Monday 20th October.
Over the past few months, members of these clubs have read various books by the laureate, including The Truth About the Savolta Case, The City of Marvels, No Word from Gurb, The Mystery of the Enchanted Crypt and The Olive Labyrinth. Admission, strictly by invitation only, will be limited to participating book club members.
Mendoza will also meet with the general public at an event hosted by bookseller Rafa Gutiérrez Testón, in which he will review the significance of his book The Truth About the Savolta Case in the recent history of Spanish literature. The historical circumstances of the novel’s publication and the widespread public acclaim it has received over the decades will be discussed during the event, which will be held at the Niemeyer Centre in Avilés starting at 7:30pm on Wednesday 22nd October.

Project Gurb: Games and music
The aliens from the famous novel by Eduardo Mendoza “No Word from Gurb” will land in Asturias as part of the events honouring the 2025 Princess of Asturias Laureate for Literature. The activity titled “Project Gurb. The Alien Game” will take place in Oviedo on 18th and 19th October. Participants will use a map and a logbook as a guide to follow the alien’s footprints at different locations in the city to discover the whereabouts of the companion of the leading character from Mendoza’s novel.
In addition, the La Vega Arms Factory will host concert sessions and an installation designed to rediscover the Laureate’s literary career.

Awards Week
These activities form part of “Awards Week”, a cultural programme designed by the Foundation that includes the participation of the Princess of Asturias Laureates in a variety of activities during the days leading up to the Awards Ceremony at the Campoamor Theatre. Since 1996, the Foundation has scheduled different activities in diverse locations in Asturias aimed at making the Laureates and their contributions to the world of science, culture or any other field in which they work better known to society at large.
Admission to all “Awards Week” events is free. The Foundation will announce the complete programme of activities in the coming days, as well as how to register to attend the different events.
