49 nominations encompassing 19 different nationalities are in the running for this Award, the fourth of eight international awards that are bestowed each year by the Princess of Asturias Foundation, now in their 45th year

The meeting of the Jury responsible for awarding the 2025 Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts, the fourth of eight international awards that will be bestowed by the Princess of Asturias Foundation, will be held on 23rd May. The awards will be bestowed this year for the 45th time in their history. Forty-nine candidatures, encompassing nineteen different nationalities, have been nominated for this award.
As an exception, following its cancellation on 28th April due to the blackout that affected the Iberian Peninsula, the meeting will be held via video conference.
As stated in the Foundation’s Regulations, the Princess of Asturias Awards are aimed at rewarding “the scientific, technical, cultural, social and humanitarian work carried out at an international level by individuals, institutions or groups of individuals or institutions”. In keeping with these principles, the Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts is to be granted to “the work of fostering, cultivating and advancing architecture, dance, film-making, music, painting, photography, sculpture, theatre or any other form of artistic expression.”
Each Princess of Asturias Award comprises a Joan Miró sculpture representing and symbolising the Award, a diploma, an insignia and a cash prize of fifty thousand euros.
The Jury’s decision will be announced at the end of the meeting that same Friday morning/early afternoon via a press release and on the Foundation’s website and social networks.
