Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer Doudna

Princess of Asturias Award for Technical & Scientific Research 2015

Statement by Emmanuelle Charpentier on being bestowed with the 2015 Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research:

“I am truly honored and very moved to receive this wonderful recognition from the remarkable people of the Princess of Asturias Foundation. Curiosity, a quest for knowledge and understanding has always been a strong drive in my life. Trying to shed some more light on the mysteries of life became a mission. I feel privileged to research on the fascinating world of microbes and look forward to unravel further the secrets of their and thus our lives.
I hope that this award recognising the fundamental science behind the discovery of the transformable CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing technology provides a positive message to the funding organisations to support basic science and to the young generation to motivate them to pursue the path of an academic career.”

Statement by Jennifer Doudna on being bestowed with the 2015 Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research:

“I am truly thrilled to receive this award together with my colleague Emmanuelle Charpentier. I hope this recognition of science and technology inspires younger scientists to pursue their research with a spirit of adventure, because fundamental insights often come from curiosity-driven research.”
