Princess of Asturias Award for Concord 2021

In the course of its online meeting, the Jury for the 2021 Princess of Asturias Award for Concord, made up of Fernando de Almansa Moreno-Barreda, Viscount of Castillo de Almansa, José Ramón Álvarez Rendueles, Ernesto Antolin Arribas, Carlos Barrasa Ruiz, Philippe Boisseau, Antonio Brufau Niubó, Alfredo Canteli Fernández, Carlos Casanueva Varas, Manuel Contreras Caro, Jacobo Cosmen Menéndez-Castañedo, José Antonio Fernández Carbajal, Pedro Luis Fernández Pérez, José Antonio Fernández Rivero, Luis Fernández-Vega Sanz, Emilio Ferré Solé, Ignacio Garralda Ruiz de Velasco, Ana González Rodríguez, Jaime Gorbeña Yllera, Belén Gualda González, Alicia Koplowitz Romero de Juséu, Marchioness of Bellavista, Laureano Lourido Artime, Alfredo Mahou Herráiz, Marcelino Marcos Líndez, Pedro Martín Barón, César Menéndez Claverol, Adolfo Menéndez Menéndez, Carlos Navalpotro Fuster, José Oliu i Creus, María del Pino Calvo-Sotelo, Gregorio Rabanal Martínez, Helena Revoredo de Gut, Matías Rodríguez Inciarte, Gonzalo Sánchez Martínez, Juan Sánchez-Calero Guilarte, Antonio Suárez Gutiérrez, Gonzalo Urquijo Fernández de Araoz, Manuel Villa-Cellino Torre, Ignacio Ybarra Aznar, chaired by Adrián Barbón Rodríguez and with Pedro de Silva Cienfuegos-Jovellanos acting as secretary, has decided to grant the 2020 Princess of Asturias Award for Concord to the chef, entrepreneur and philanthropist José Andrés and the World Central Kitchen organization.

Together with the organization which he founded, World Central Kitchen (WCK), José Andrés has drawn on his successful experience in the gastronomic and business world and a worldwide vision to develop forms of humanitarian aid for the most disadvantaged in the most extreme situations.

The Jury highlights the Laureate’s ability to set up an organization that has been offering an extraordinarily fast and effective response on the ground to tackle food and social emergencies. It has served to promote the group effort of actors from different fields in search of a more just, equitable and sustainable society.
