Olympic Refuge Foundation and IOC Refugee Olympic Team

Princess of Asturias Award for Sports 2022

At its meeting in Oviedo, the Jury for the 2022 Princess of Asturias Award for Sports, composed of Alejandro Blanco Bravo, Vicente del Bosque González, Miguel Carballeda Piñeiro, María Paz Corominas Guerin, Joaquín Folch-Rusiñol Corachán, Juan Ignacio Gallardo Tomé, Patricia García Rodríguez, Vicente Jiménez Navas, Santiago Nolla Zayas, Edurne Pasabán Lizarribar, Paloma del Río Cañadas, Alberto Suárez Laso, chaired by Abel Antón Rodrigo and with Theresa Zabell Lucas acting as secretary, has decided to bestow the 2022 Princess of Asturias Award for Sports on the Olympic Refuge Foundation and the IOC Refugee Olympic Team for the opportunity they afford athletes in conflict zones and places where human rights are violated, preventing them from being able to perform their sporting and personal activities.

The Refugee Olympic Team merges the highest values of sport, such as integration, education, solidarity and humanity, and represents a message of hope for the world.
