Sebastian Coe Prince of Asturias Award for Sports 1987

Meeting in Oviedo on March 19 and 20, 1987, the jury for the 1987 Prince of Asturias Award for Sports—composed of María Paz Corominas, Pedro Ferreira Lima Bello, Carlos Ferrer Salat, Javier Gómez Navarro, José Luis González, Ladislao Kubala, Anselmo López, Herminio Menéndez, Manuel Santana, Raimundo Saporta, and Jesús Suárez-Valgrande, chaired by Juan Antonio Samaranch, with Antonio Masip Hidalgo serving as secretary—resolved by majority vote to confer this award upon Sebastian Coe.

The Jury has taken into account Sebastian Coe’s exemplary sporting and Olympic record, as well as his personality—which reflects the concerns of athletes—and his committed involvement in the promotion of sport.
