Mario Draghi 2025 Princess of Asturias Award for International Cooperation

At its meeting in Oviedo, the Jury for the 2025 Princess of Asturias Award for International Cooperation, composed of Gabriela Cañas Pita de la Vega, Miguel Carballeda Piñeiro, Laura Díaz Anadón, Pilar García Ceballos-Zúñiga, Rodrigo García González, Cristina Garmendia Mendizábal, Charo Izquierdo Martínez, Mònica Margarit Ribalta, Íñigo Méndez de Vigo y Montojo, Baron of Claret, Pol Morillas i Bassedas, Juan Carlos del Olmo Castillejos, Isaac Querub Caro and Ignacio Villaverde Menéndez, chaired by Gustavo Suárez-Pertierra and with Gloria Fernández-Lomana García acting as secretary, has decided to grant the 2025 Princess of Asturias Award for International Cooperation to Italian economist and politician Mario Draghi for his role as a key figure in the defence of European integration and international cooperation, being widely recognized for his leadership and firm commitment to the fundamental values and advancement of the European Union.
The Jury has highly regarded the fact that, throughout his extensive career spanning more than four decades, Draghi has promoted multilateralism, cooperation between Member States, and the institutional and economic strengthening of the EU, as well as its role on the global stage. A symbol of a free, strong, united and public-spirited Europe, he has championed growth and improved competitiveness with independence and a long-term vision, calling for common policies on health, energy transition and digitalization, while focusing on three transformations: innovation, decarbonization and economic security.
