Serena Williams 2025 Princess of Asturias Award for Sports

At its meeting in Oviedo, the Jury for the 2025 Princess of Asturias Award for Sports, composed of Teresa Bernadas Porto, Carlos Carpio Rodríguez, Joaquín Folch-Rusiñol Corachán, Vicente Jiménez Navas, Santiago Nolla Zayas, Jennifer Pareja Lisalde, Edurne Pasabán Lizarribar, Samuel Sánchez González, Sitapha Savané Sagna, Alberto Suárez Laso, Joan Vehils Guasch and Theresa Zabell Lucas, chaired by Teresa Perales Fernández and with Paloma del Río Cañadas acting as secretary, has decided to confer the 2025 Princess of Asturias Award for Sports on American tennis player Serena Williams.
Considered one of the greatest tennis players in the history of the sport with an indisputable record of accomplishments, she has won 73 singles titles, including 23 Grand Slams and 4 Olympic gold medals.
In addition to her extraordinary sporting career and competitive spirit, Serena Williams has always been a staunch advocate for gender equality and equal opportunities between men and women in sports as well as in society in general.
