Mary-Claire King 2025 Princess of Asturias Award for Technical & Scientific Research

Statement by Mary-Claire King following the conferral of the 2025 Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research.

“It is my great pleasure to learn that I am the recipient of the 2025 Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research. Although given to me as an individual, the award celebrates the power of genetics for the common good and the power of scientists as citizens of the world. These two themes have guided my work, in studies of breast cancer with patients and their physicians worldwide, and in human rights with the Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo of Argentina.
 
The history of this award shares these themes. The Princess of Asturias Foundation, with the support of the Royal Family, has been exemplary in their support for science and science education. Asturias has a proud history of defending democracy. I am delighted and grateful to be a part of their story this year.”
