Byung-Chul Han 2025 Princess of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities

At its meeting in Oviedo, the Jury for the 2025 Princess of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities, composed of Irene Cano Piquero, Victoria Cirlot Valenzuela, Estrella de Diego Otero, Taciana Fisac Badell, Santiago González Suárez, Álex Grijelmo García, Alma Guillermoprieto, Miguel Ángel Liso Tejada, Catalina Luca de Tena y García-Conde, Marchioness of Valle de Tena, Cristina de Middel Puch, Miguel Ángel Oliver Fernández, Carmen Riera i Guilera y Diana Sorensen, chaired by Miguel Falomir Faus and with Óscar Loureda Lamas acting as secretary, has decided to grant the 2025 Princess of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities to South Korean-born German thinker Byung-Chul Han for his brilliance in interpreting the challenges of technological society.
His work reveals an extraordinary ability to communicate new ideas precisely and directly, drawing on philosophical traditions from both the East and the West.
Han’s analysis is extremely fruitful, providing insights into issues such as dehumanization, digitalization and the isolation of people. His intercultural approach sheds light on complex phenomena in the contemporary world and has found widespread resonance among audiences of diverse generations.
